# Ayurvedic Treatment for Heel Pain with Agnikarma – A Clinical Experience

Heel pain can make something as simple as taking the first few steps in the morning extremely uncomfortable. For some patients, the pain becomes severe enough that walking barefoot becomes difficult.

This is the clinical experience of a 56-year-old woman who consulted us with severe heel pain that had been troubling her for approximately **six months**.

## Severe Pain During the First Steps After Rest

The patient's main complaint was severe pain when placing her heel on the ground, particularly **just after waking up in the morning**.

She also noticed a similar problem whenever she started walking after sitting or resting for some time.

Walking barefoot was particularly difficult. The pain was severe enough that she could not walk comfortably without footwear.

Interestingly, she was able to move much more comfortably when wearing soft-soled slipper, but the pain returned when she attempted to walk barefoot.

This problem had continued for around six months and was affecting her normal daily activities.

## She Came Specifically Looking for Agnikarma

The patient's reason for visiting our clinic was particularly interesting.

Someone in her friend circle had suggested that she explore Agnikarma in Ayurveda for her heel pain.

After hearing about the treatment, she decided to consult us specifically to find out whether Agnikarma could be suitable for her condition.

## Clinical Examination and Treatment

When she visited us, we first evaluated her symptoms and examined the affected heel.

Based on her clinical presentation, Agnikarma was selected as part of her individualized Ayurvedic management.

The procedure was performed over the appropriate points around the painful heel.

After treatment, rather than repeatedly performing the procedure immediately, we advised her to return after seven days for follow-up so that we could assess the response.

## What Happened After 7 Days?

When the patient returned for her follow-up after seven days, there was a noticeable difference in her symptoms.

She was very happy with the response.

According to the patient, she was now able to walk comfortably barefoot without the heel pain that had previously troubled her.

This was significant because before treatment, placing her bare heel on the ground—particularly after waking or after a period of rest—had caused severe pain.

During the follow-up, she expressed her surprise at how quickly she had experienced improvement with the Ayurvedic procedure and thanked us for the treatment.

## Agnikarma for Heel Pain

Agnikarma is a specialized para-surgical procedure described in Ayurveda and may be considered in selected painful musculoskeletal conditions.

The decision to perform Agnikarma should be based on proper clinical examination. Not every patient presenting with heel pain necessarily requires the same treatment because heel pain can have different underlying causes.

In this particular case, the patient's predominant problem was pain on weight-bearing, especially during the first steps after rest and while walking barefoot.

Following Agnikarma, she reported substantial symptomatic improvement at her seven-day follow-up.

## Clinical Takeaway

This case describes our clinical experience with a 56-year-old woman suffering from persistent heel pain for approximately six months.

Before treatment:

- She experienced severe pain while placing her heel on the ground after waking.

- The first steps after a period of rest were particularly painful.

- Walking barefoot was difficult.

- Soft-soled slippers made walking more comfortable.

- The symptoms had persisted for approximately six months.

After clinical evaluation, Agnikarma was performed and she was asked to return after seven days.

At her follow-up, the patient reported that she was able to walk comfortably barefoot without the previous pain.

Her response was particularly encouraging considering how much the heel pain had been affecting her everyday walking before treatment.

### Important Note

This article describes the experience and reported outcome of an individual patient and does not guarantee that every case of heel pain will respond similarly. Heel pain can have several underlying causes, and treatment should be selected only after appropriate clinical evaluation. Individual results and the number of treatment sessions required may vary.
