Hair Fall: Causes, Tests and Treatment in Vaishali

Mar 20, 2026

Losing 50 to 100 hairs a day is normal. Hair fall becomes a concern when you see much more on the pillow or comb, a widening parting, or bald patches.

Common causes

  • Hair fall 2 to 3 months after a fever such as dengue, typhoid or COVID, which usually settles on its own within a few months
  • Anaemia and low vitamin D or B12
  • Thyroid problems
  • PCOD in women
  • Stress, crash diets and poor sleep
  • Dandruff and scalp infections
  • Pattern hair loss that runs in families
  • Round bald patches (alopecia areata)

Tests that help

A complete blood count, ferritin (iron stores), thyroid profile, and vitamin D and B12 levels. Women with irregular periods may also need hormone tests.

See a doctor soon if

  • you have round bald patches
  • the scalp is red, painful or scarred
  • hair fall comes with weight loss, fatigue or irregular periods

How Dr Amit Kumar approaches hair fall

He looks at when the hair fall started, your diet, stress, periods and test reports before prescribing homeopathic medicine. If a test shows a clear cause such as severe anaemia or a thyroid problem, that is treated too. Hair grows slowly, so it takes at least 3 months to judge whether treatment is helping.
