How to send a parcel from Gurdaspur district: rates, delivery times and pickup

If you live in Gurdaspur district and need to send a parcel, the first questions are always the same. How much will it cost, how long will it take, and do you have to travel to a courier office? This guide answers all three with real rates from Harpreet Courier Service in Qadian, which has been booking parcels since 2021.

Two things change the final price. The first is weight, which is rounded up to the next slab, so a parcel of 1.2 kg is charged as more than 1 kg. The second is box size. A big box that weighs very little takes up space in the courier van, so couriers can charge it on its size instead of its weight. If you are sending something bulky, like a quilt or a set of pillows, send the box measurements on WhatsApp first and you will get the exact price before you pack.

You can see the full Punjab rate details on the courier within Punjab page.

How long delivery takes

Parcels within Punjab usually reach the next day. That covers sending from Gurdaspur district to Amritsar, Jalandhar, Ludhiana or Pathankot. Parcels to Delhi usually take 2 days. For other states and for parcels abroad, Harpreet tells you the expected time when you book, because it depends on the destination and the courier company.

Which courier company your parcel goes with

For parcels within India, Harpreet books through Trackon, DTDC and Delhivery. For parcels abroad, he uses DHL, FedEx, UPS, Aramex and DPD.

You do not need to pick one yourself. Tell him the weight and the destination and he will book the network with the best rate for that route. If you already trust one company, say so when you book.

Whichever network carries it, you get a tracking number (also called an AWB number). Enter it on that company's website to see where your parcel is.

Sending from your town in Gurdaspur district

The shop is in Mohalla Dharampura, Qadian, near Singh Sabha Gurudwara. Doorstep pickup is available in Qadian and in Gurdaspur city, so if you live in either place you do not have to come to the shop at all.

If you are in Batala, Dhariwal, Dinanagar, Sri Hargobindpur or a village nearby, you have two options. You can bring the parcel to the shop in Qadian, or you can WhatsApp your location on +91 88472 00238 and check whether a pickup is possible that day. Either way, the rates in the table above are the same.

Sending a parcel abroad from Gurdaspur

A lot of families in the district have relatives in Canada, the UK, the USA and Australia, and Harpreet sends parcels to all four countries.

Before you book, keep these ready:

  • The receiver's full name, complete address, postcode and phone number. International couriers will not accept a parcel without all four.
  • A copy of your own ID. International courier companies in India usually ask for the sender's ID for every shipment.
  • A list of what is inside the parcel and its rough value, for the customs form.

Be careful with food and medicines. Many countries restrict them, and Australia is strict about food items in particular. Ask Harpreet before you pack pinnis, pickles or homemade sweets, because a parcel held at customs can be delayed or sent back.

Packing tips

Packing material is available at the shop, and Harpreet can pack the parcel for you. If you pack at home, use a strong box that is only a little bigger than what you are sending, fill the empty space so nothing moves, and seal every edge with tape. Write the receiver's phone number clearly, because it is the first thing the delivery person uses if they cannot find the address.
