Water Yield Testing is a crucial process to evaluate the amount of water a borewell can produce. This test determines whether the borewell can meet the water demand for its intended use, whether domestic, agricultural, or industrial.
Procedure:
Pumping Test: A submersible pump is installed in the borewell to extract water continuously over a specific period. The rate of water flow is carefully measured in liters per minute (LPM) or cubic meters per hour (m³/hr).
Drawdown Measurement: During pumping, the water level in the borewell is monitored to observe how much it drops (drawdown). This helps in understanding the aquifer's capacity to replenish the water.
Recovery Test: After stopping the pump, the rate at which the water level recovers is measured. Quick recovery indicates a strong aquifer, while slow recovery may signal limited water availability.
Analysis: The collected data is analyzed to calculate the sustainable yield, ensuring the borewell can continuously supply water without over-extracting the resource.
Benefits:
Water Yield Testing is essential for long-term borewell sustainability and efficient water resource management.
